STEWARDSHIP
A life of stewardship is simply this: living our lives on the basis that we own nothing, that God alone is the sole owner of everything, and that whatever we do have comes from him. We are simply the stewards, the trustees of that which belongs to God. We are no more owners of it than a small group of men and women in the church responsible for the buildings and grounds. We entrust into their hands the care, upkeep, and maintenance of all the physical properties of the church.
Stewardship is the philosophy that the psalmist had when he recorded these words: “The Lord says, ‘The earth is Mine. Unto you it is given but for a possession.’” The life of stewardship is what Paul was talking about when he asked the question, “What do you have that you did not receive?” Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, and the victory, for all that is in the heaven and the earth is thine.
Stewardship is in a sense the whole response to the gospel. It includes salvation, full surrender, giving, missions, and daily living.
